Oven to Air Guide

Air fryer cooking times chart

By Updated Last reviewed How we calculate

Most foods air fry at 350–400°F (175–200°C) in roughly 20–25% less time than in the oven. The chart below lists a starting temperature and time for common foods, with the oven directions alongside. Times assume a preheated air fryer and a single layer; check doneness with a thermometer.

Rules of thumb

  • Small and frozen (nuggets, fries, snacks): 380–400°F, 8–15 minutes, shake often.
  • Raw meat: 375–400°F, then go by the thermometer: 165°F (74°C) for poultry, 145°F (63°C) for whole cuts of beef and pork, 160°F (71°C) for ground meat.
  • Vegetables: 375–400°F with a little oil, 8–20 minutes depending on size.
  • Baking: lower, 300–325°F, so the outside doesn’t set before the middle.

Safe temperatures come from the FoodSafety.gov safe minimum temperature chart.

Frequently asked questions

Do air fryer cooking times assume preheating?

Yes. The times on this chart are for a preheated air fryer. Starting cold, add about 2–3 minutes.

Do I need to adjust times for a bigger batch?

Yes. A full basket cooks more slowly than a single layer. Add a few minutes, shake more often, or cook in batches for the best texture.

Why are my times different from the chart?

Air fryers vary in power, basket size and how close the element sits to the food. Use the chart as a starting point and check early the first time you cook something.
