Frozen Meatballs in the Air Fryer
By AnoyUpdated Last reviewed How we calculate
Cook frozen, pre-cooked meatballs in the air fryer at 375°F (190°C) for 10–12 minutes, shaking halfway, until they reach 165°F (74°C) in the center. The usual oven directions are about 350°F for 20 minutes.

Why this differs from the standard conversion
The standard oven to air fryer rule would turn 350°F for 20 minutes into 325°F for 16 minutes. Meatballs are small and already cooked; they only need reheating, so they are ready well before the general rule’s time.
Step by step
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Spread the frozen meatballs in a single layer.
- Air fry for 10–12 minutes, shaking halfway.
- Check that the center reaches 165°F (74°C), then toss with sauce.
How to tell it’s done
Leftovers and pre-cooked foods should be reheated to 165°F (74°C). Check with an instant-read thermometer in the thickest part; see theFoodSafety.gov safe minimum temperature chart.
Tips
- Large (2-inch) meatballs need 2–3 extra minutes.
- Raw homemade meatballs are different: cook them at 375°F for about 10–12 minutes until they reach 160°F (165°F for poultry).
- Toss in warm sauce after air frying to keep the outside slightly crisp.
Different box or recipe?
Package and recipe directions vary. Enter the oven temperature and time from yours and the calculator converts them with the standard rule. For this food, treat its result as an upper limit and check from the time given above.

Use the box’s oven directions as input and flip halfway. If the box lists air fryer directions, use those.
Accuracy and limitations
These times are starting points built from typical oven directions, converted with the same rules as the calculator. They are not lab measurements, and your food and appliance will differ.
- Appliances vary. Wattage, basket size and how close the element sits to the food change cooking speed. That’s why every result includes a “check at” time.
- Load matters. A full or stacked basket cooks more slowly than a single layer.
- Temperature limits. Many basket air fryers stop at 400°F (200°C). Converted settings above that are flagged.
- Poor fits for any formula: wet batters, delicate cakes, low-and-slow recipes and roasts over an hour. Use a thermometer and expect to adjust.
- Food safety comes from internal temperature, not time. Check meat, poultry, seafood and leftovers against the USDA safe minimum temperatures.
- Packaging wins. If your box prints air fryer directions, follow them.

Frequently asked questions
How long do frozen meatballs take in the air fryer?
10–12 minutes at 375°F (190°C), shaking halfway. Larger meatballs need a couple of minutes more.
Do frozen meatballs need to be thawed?
No. Cook them straight from frozen and check that the center reaches 165°F (74°C).
Can I cook frozen meatballs in sauce in the air fryer?
It is better to air fry them first and add sauce after. Sauce in the basket burns and drips through.
Times are starting points; air fryers vary. Always check doneness with a thermometer. Want everything on one page? See the air fryer cooking times chart.
